I collected locally in an ethical manner.
Yellow Mountain Avens Dryas drummondii Rose Family

Color: yellow
Plant height: stalks are 2 – 10 inches long,
leaves form a ground cover
Bloom time: June - August
Native habitat:
gravel bars along mountain rivers and streams, can be found near treeline
on rocky slopes
A great addition to a rock garden this plant is as pretty is seed as it is in bloom. The feathery styles (tails on the seed) are twisted at first, then unwind and look like loose cotton. The seeds “twist” themselves into the ground by curling when wet and straightening when dry. Yellow mountain avens was used as a heart medicine by the Salish (Thompson) and as a drink to prevent kidney and bladder trouble by the (Suswap) Salish.
